I’d like to think of myself as a relatively pragmatic person. If something is working, I’m not going to question it unless I see it breaking in the very near future. That being said, the past two weeks of my life in the office have been dominated by a web page devoted to Regulatory Affairs in Research at UD. Another way to phrase that is tabs upon tabs upon tabs upon tabs of jargon I had almost no previous context for. Thankfully I’m at a good point with that page now and going off into the exciting world of paperwork and training.
But anyway, it got me thinking about just how often I have to work with content that goes way out of my comfort zone. Whether I’m doing freelance or work for the Research Office, the majority of the time I find myself needing to do a bit of research on the fundamentals of whatever discipline is staring at me expectantly. Without that little bit of an understanding, decisions regarding hierarchy, information breaks, and even where to use what graphics begin feeling haphazard.
